Farid T. Salem



CMA CGM Executive Officer was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1939.

He holds a Masters degree in law and economics from St. Joseph University in Beirut.

Farid T. Salem began his career in 1964 with Lebanon’s Packfreez as a director and partner.

From 1964 to 1973 he successively headed the import and distribution of food products in Lebanon and industrial fishing operations in Madagascar.

From 1974 to 1976, he was back in Lebanon, following the Madagascar government’s nationalisation of the fishing company. He founded and managed Polyfreez, an importer and distributor of seafood products in Lebanon.

In response to local events, he expatriated to Kuwait in 1976, where until 1986, he was Director of Fisheries for United Fisheries of Kuwait, with its fleet of 50 freezer trawlers.

Contacted by Jacques R. Saadé in 1978, Farid T. Salem helped create and launch Compagnie Maritime d’Affrètement (CMA) in Marseille.

In 1986, Jacques R. Saadé appointed him Chief Executive Vice President of CMA, then, in 1999, of CMA CGM Group, following the merger with Compagnie Générale Maritime.

In 2010, Farid T. Salem is appointed Executive Officer of CMA CGM and Director of the Board.
