Collision of CC Strauss by tug FRANCIA over 50% of lost fuel recovered

The specialized GPIM (Intervention Group on Marine Pollution) vessel chartered by CMA CGM to strengthen the anti-pollution measures already in place has been working since yesterday within the French Authorities anti-pollution plan, under instructions from the AILETTE boat, in assisting her pumping operations. She will also work today in cooperation with the CHEVREUIL vessel. According to preliminary estimates to date, more than half the quantity of the fuel oil lost has been recovered thanks to the anti-pollution plan set up by the French Authorities in cooperation with the Italian Authorities.

"This collision we suffered is deeply regrettable. CMA CGM has a strict policy on Environment, Security, and Safety matters. Immediately after our vessel was struck outside Genoa, we activated our emergency response team who has been working tirelessly since Friday with both the Italian and French authorities in order to put all necessary measures in place to recover the oil and minimize the pollution impact. Measures undertaken are consistent and weather conditions are favourable. We will not relax our efforts until the pollution risks are avoided" said Frederick Fave, Security, Safety, Environment Manager of CMA CGM Group.

The pollution has resulted from the CC Strauss being struck whilst departing the port
