Intermodal investments
CMA CGM continues to develop in the intermodal transport segment, carrying 1.15 million teu - 19% of total freight volume - during 2006. The Group is now in a position to offer customers a wide range of rail, inland waterway and road haulage solutions.

CMA CGM plans to double rail volume under CMA RAIL name
"France's CMA CGM, the world's third-largest shipping line, will next month establish a management holding company to oversee the expansion of its global rail operations. The new company, CMA RAIL, is a wholly owned subsidiary of CMA CGM, which has rail services in Europe, India, China and North Africa."

CMA CGM exec: Ocean and rail transport must cooperate, not compete
"An official with CMA CGM’s rail subsidiary Rail-link told a conference in New Delhi Thursday that steamship lines and railroads cannot compete for business but must work together to synergize supply chains and develop new multimodal services where none existed before. "From my point of view, there’s no competition between rail and sea", said Patrick Ben Arous, director of development for Rail-link. "It’s a continuum. If we think about them as competition, it’s a mistake." (...)"

CMA CGM takes minority stake in China rail project
"Container shipping group CMA CGM has taken its Chinese landside interests into a new phase (...) it takes a minority stake in the project, which involves designing, building and operating a nationwide network to link 18 new container rail terminals. An agreement to this effect was signed between CMA CGM and CRCTC in Beijing last week during an official visit to China by French president Jacques Chirac.(...) The regular, high-capacity multi-modal links it would provide would function as extensions of the 25 weekly shipping services with which it currently serves China, it said."

CMA CGM’s Rail Link enters Veolia joint venture
"CMA CGM subsidiary Rail Link is to run container rail services through two new ventures with Veolia Environnement subsidiary Veolia Transport, starting on the Marseilles-Germany corridor. An operational rail company – 49% controlled by RL and 51% by VT – will operate locomotives and rolling-stock on the routes, with its first purchased locomotives entering service late this year (...)"

CMA CGM and Veolia tie up to boost rail box traffic
