WORLD INNOVATION | The CMA CGM Group chooses liquefied natural gas
The CMA CGM Group, a world leader in maritime transport, is pleased to announce its decision to equip its 9 future ships of 22,000 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit), delivered in 2020, with engines using liquefied natural gas.
The presence of the Group in Martinique trace back to 1862, when Compagnie Générale Transatlantique served, for the first time, West Indies from Europe for the transportation of passengers and goods. First maritime operator in Martinique, the CMA CGM Group is represented in Fort-de-France via the CMA CGM ANTILLES GUYANE agency.
The agency currently count 120 collaborators, trusted with the customer service, all the freight and documentation attendance and ship’s agent. The Group offer to its clients in Martinique a complete maritime and logistic offer integrating both commercial activity and port stevedoring.

CMA CGM Group in Martinique essentially imports consumption and furniture goods , agro-food products, construction materials, movings and vehicles, chemical and pharmaceutical products.
The group is particularly involved in Banana Transportation, the first exportation of Martinique. Beside banana, the Group exports mostly aggro-food products, vehicles, recyclable materials (paper, glass) and Rum. Movings from and to Continental France represent a big part of transportations.
Beyond the development of maritimes services, CMA CGM Group has invested in stevedoring in Martinique since 1985, in order to assure the modernisation of the port equipments, the computerized management of the terminal and the setup of reception/delivery operations optimizations on the Terminal of Pointe des Grives.
To that end, CMA CGM, conjointly with the many partners on site created on the 5th of july 2010, the GEMO company, unique employer of the dockers workforce, and work together with them for the establishment of a unique port operator trough the Port Reform.
