CMA CGM partners with the Transat Jacques Vabre Route du Café yacht race
The CMA CGM Group is the leading partner of the 15th edition of the Transat Jacques Vabre race, highlighting its close ties with Le Havre, the French West Indies and the seafaring world.
After participating for the first time in the legendary Vendée Globe solo round-the-world race alongside skipper Boris Herrmann, CMA CGM is now embarking on a ground-breaking partnership with the organizer of the Transatlantic race, which this year will run from Le Havre to Martinique.
The route and the finishing line in Fort-de-France Bay hold particular significance for CMA CGM, as they serve as a reminder of the Group’s longstanding ties with the French West Indies. Since the 1930s, Compagnie Générale Maritime has handled the bulk of goods traffic to and from the French West Indies. And the CMA CGM Group still serves in that role today, thanks to its fleet of modern, more environmentally-friendly vessels that make close to 240 calls p.a. in Martinique.
For CMA CGM, this new partnership is also one of several actions it is undertaking with other seafarers and sailors. In addition to its participation in the Vendée Globe and its backing of the Transat Jacques Vabre race, it has also established a research partnership with the Energy Observer floating lab to develop the energy sources of the future: the Group shares with all these seafarers values of solidarity and self-surpassing, as well as displaying unwavering commitment to protecting the environment and looking after the oceans, which are such a precious asset for all sea-lovers.
