Containers of Hope
The CMA CGM Corporate Foundation has launched its first major humanitarian operation in Africa: Containers of Hope
On 25 October 2012, the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation officially launched the Containers of Hope operation, its first major humanitarian transport project.
Aware of the humanitarian and social challenges facing many African countries, the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation has decided in 2012 to put CMA CGM’s expertise at the service of these two big French NGOs (non-governmental organizations) Actions contre la Faim (ACF) / Action Against Hunger and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) / Doctors Without Borders..
For the first year of Containers of Hope, CMA CGM Group, which has a strong presence in Africa, carried more than seventy 20-foot containers[/b], mainly from France. It was transported towards the humanitarian programmes run by these two NGOs in ten countries: Somalia, the Central African Republic, Liberia, Congo-Brazzaville, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Niger, Mali, and Madagascar.
In total nearly 600 tonnes of humanitarian aid—including food, nutritional supplements, medicine, water and sanitation equipment were sent. This is intended to help fight child malnutrition, provide access to water, and meet the basic needs of the most vulnerable populations in areas of conflict or high-level humanitarian risks.
