Rodolphe Saadé, Chief Executive Officer and member of the CMA CGM Group’s Board of Directors, was born on 3 March 1970 in Lebanon.
An international career path
Rodolphe Saadé’s education and career have been marked by his international experience. Having obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Concordia University in Montreal, where he majored in marketing, he founded Dynamics Concept, a company selling water coolers based in Lebanon.
In 1994, Rodolphe Saadé joined the CMA CGM Group, led by his father Jacques Saadé. In particular he worked in New York and then Hong Kong before moving to the shipping company’s head office in Marseille. He is today Chief Executive Officer and member of the CMA CGM Group’s Board of Directors, and since 2016 the President of NOL’s Board of Directors.
A leader of stature
From 1997 to 2000, Rodolphe Saadé successively headed different shipping lines before taking the Transatlantic and Transpacific lines under his responsibility. In 2004, Rodolphe Saadé was appointed Executive Officer in charge of developing regular lines on the North/South axis. In 2006, he conducted DELMAS’ lines expansion in Africa and the Indian Ocean, turning the subsidiary into an efficient and profitable operator.
Appointed Vice Chairman and member of the CMA CGM Group’s Board of Directors in 2010, he oversaw the financial restructuring of the Group.
In 2015, Rodolphe Saadé conducted the pre-conditional voluntary general cash offer for Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), a Singapour based container shipping company, and became President of NOL’s Board of Directors on June 14th, 2016.
Rodolphe Saadé conducted the talks leading to the signature of OCEAN ALLIANCE in April 2016, a strategic operational agreement with Cosco Shipping, Evergreen Line, and OOCL. This ambitious agreement will allow CMA CGM to offer best-in-class services to customers with fast transit times, competitive sailing frequencies, and the most extensive port coverage in the market. The new Alliance will begin operations in 2017.
In September 2016, Rodolphe Saadé was distinguished as the Newsmaker of the Year by the Lloyd's List magazine for his vision for the shipping industry, his key role during the unprecedented round of consolidations and the reshuffling of maritime alliances currently taking place, including the acquisition process of NOL , as well as the setting up of Alliance Ocean.
In December 2016, the Saadé family ranked 4th on the Lloyd's List One Hundred, listing the most influential people of the shipping industry.
On the occasion of his 80th anniversary, Mr. Jacques Saadé announced February, 7, 2017 the appointment of his son Rodolphe Saadé as Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group. Jacques Saadé remains Chairman of the Board of Directors.
