In 2015, Jacques R.Saadé, Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer then, decided to deploy an 18,000-TEU capacity vessel to the U.S for a trial call.

On Saturday, December 26th 2015, CMA CGM BENJAMIN FRANKLIN called the Port of Los Angeles and became the first carrier to call at a U.S. port with a vessel of this size. Receiving an 18,000-TEU capacity vessel for the first time required long and meticulous preparation to guarantee a flawless call and fluid operations in as little time as possible.

On December 31, the vessel called the port of Oakland before departing to China for her next calls.
